The National Primary Health Care Development Agency has released guidelines on registering for COVID-19 vaccination in Nigeria. Recall that the agency on Sunday said that Nigeria would take delivery of 3.92 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday, March 2.

According to the NPHCDA, the delivery would mark the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines in the country and make Nigeria the next West African country to benefit from the COVAX Facility after Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire.

The NPHCDA Executive Director, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, disclosed this on Sunday at the joint meeting with the World Health Organisation and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.

On Monday, NPHCDA, via a series of tweets on its verified Twitter handle @NphcdaNG directed members of the public to “Please visit the website http://nphcda.gov.ng and click on ‘COVID-19 Vaccination e-registration’ to register for #COVID-19 vaccination.

According to the NPHCDA, the following are the steps on how to register for COVID-19 vaccination:

1. Log in to https://nphcda.gov.ng/

2. Upon logging, click on the ‘COVID-19 vaccination e-Registration’ link on the website.

The agency noted that the registration platform will capture the candidate’s data and schedule him/her for COVID 19 vaccination.

This means that the individual doing self registration must fill in requisite information on the electronic form.

Candidates for COVID-19 vaccination have the privilege of choosing their preferred vaccination date and time slot, complete with a photo update.

Anyone who successfully completes the e-registration will receive a message stating: “Registration Completed!… Your Vaccination ID is:

“Your data is successfully received.

“Thank you for taking time to fill the form, you will receive an SMS and email shortly containing your Vaccination No. and other instructions.”

Meanwhile, the NPHCDA in a tweet on its official Twitter handle @NphcdaNG noted that healthcare workers and strategic leaders will be prioritised.

“In the first phase of the vaccination, health care workers, frontline workers — (the military, police, oil and gas workers, Nigerians at the border posts), and strategic leaders, etc., will be prioritised,” it said.

Quoting the the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the agency noted that “In less than 24 hours, the first batch of AstraZeneca vaccines will arrive in Nigeria from the COVAX Facility and will be deployed to vaccinate, first our critical frontline health care workers, who are providing essential care.”

It warned that vaccines that are not approved by NAFDAC will be determined as dangerous, and will be seized by Customs Services and NAFDAC, who are on high alert for illegal vaccine importation.
